How does the School to Work Transition Tool calculate employment rates of graduates?

The School to Work Transition Tool uses data on employment outcomes for college, university and apprenticeship graduates from Statistics Canada’s Census 2021 which provides a wide range of information on the labour market activities of graduates. To calculate postgraduation employment rates, Job Bank uses a detailed version of the table Occupational Outcomes by Education, created by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).

Methodology

The table "What jobs do graduates have" shows which occupations are held by graduates in each education program and level of study. The employment percentage is calculated by dividing the number of graduates working in a specific occupation by the total number of employed respondents who have obtained the same credentials, multiplied by 100.

Example: There is a total number of 2050 employed graduates in the program "Agriculture, general" at the Bachelor's level. Of those respondents, if 30 are employed in the "Legislators" occupational group, the table shows an employment rate of 1.46%. This tells you that 1.46% of people who obtained a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture work as legislators.

Note: Many graduates have more than one postsecondary certificate, diploma or degree. The information in this tool is presented based on the highest credentials held by graduates.
