How does the Job Transition Tool calculate transition times?

The Job Transition Tool collects data from the Occupational and Skills Information System (OaSIS) as well as information from job postings and resumes submitted anonymously to Job Bank. This data is used to determine which job titles have similar skill and education requirements and to estimate the duration of a potential transition.

To calculate transition times, Job Bank considers:

  • Education and training requirements needed to transition from an occupation to another
  • Duration time of education and training programs offered across Canada

The results are generated based on the shortest education or training program currently available in Canada.

Note: Every suggested occupation includes Labour Market Information (LMI) such as wages and job prospects and shows the number of job postings currently published on Job Bank.
